The Economics of Being A Trad Wife
There is a strange assumption that because I am a staunch believer in gender equity, the idea of being a Trad Wife would repulse me. But that is untrue.
The rise of the Trad Wife over the last five years has divided women, with hardcore feminists stating a reversal of progress and young, exhausted women desiring a “soft life”. I sit somewhere in the middle.
How we define Trad Wife is key to understanding whether or not it’s harmful to women’s progress. The best summary, with examples is from Urban Dictionary.
I align most with Woman C - women’s right to choose to be a homemaker. I draw my ideology on this from bell hooks whose book Feminism Is For Everbody paints a complex narrative of gender dynamics and inclusivity. The book can be read multiple ways, but what I take from it, is that my freedom to choose is what makes me feminist and if the situation presented itself, I would have no qualms being a Trad Wife.
