New Method 7 | Identify Numbing Behaviors

This is your weekly affirmation to help you build your personal philosophy. Have a great weekend!
Take a deep breathe in...and say it with me...
Existing as a human can be emotionally painful and we find ourselves practicing numbing behaviors in order to self-soothe in the face of our daily trauma. It is difficult to determine the difference between activities for pleasure and activities for numbing, so our first job is to understand them. We aim not to engage in these numbing behaviors to the detriment of our Important Work. We list out our modes of being in Study, Service, Consumption and Rest modes, maintaining moderation and never remaining in the one mode for too long. Consumption is the warning sign for potential numbing behaviors and is the slippery slope towards self-loathing.
Actions
- Audit Your Modes: Track your daily activities under Study, Service, Consumption, and Rest to identify imbalances, especially overindulgence in Consumption.
- Set Boundaries: Define limits for pleasure activities (e.g., one episode or a 30-minute scroll) to prevent numbing behaviors.
- Replace, Don’t Escape: When tempted to numb, choose a meaningful activity in Study or Service mode, like learning something new or helping someone.
